Shining in Every Moment

One of my favourite films is The Shining, about a family employed to look after an isolated hotel during the winter months. On one level, it's the perfect job for Jack who is a writer; they have tons of food to last them over the winter months, and their son Danny has lots of room to play. On another level, the hotel has got a shady past which only Danny, who is psychic, can sense.

I love when the family is introduced to the chef, Dick, who is also psychic. Dick instantly knows Danny is a kindred spirit. While Dick is describing to Wendy (Mrs Torrance) what food they have in stock, he is communicating telepathically with Danny about ice cream.

Dick Hallorann: We've got canned fruits and vegetables, canned fish and meats, hot and cold syrups, Post Toasties, Corn Flakes, Sugar Puffs, Rice Krispies, Oatmeal... and Cream of Wheat. You got...

[then, telepathically to Danny]

Dick Hallorann: How'd you like some ice cream, Doc?

Dick Hallorann: ...a dozen jugs of black molasses, we got sixty boxes of dried milk, thirty twelve-pound bags of sugar... Now we got dried peaches, dried apricots, dried raisins and dried prunes. You know Mrs. Torrance, you got to keep regular, if you want to be happy!
When Dick and Danny have the opportunity to chat on their own, Dick talks about what it means to be telepathic:

Dick Hallorann: I can remember when I was a little boy. My grandmother and I could hold conversations entirely without ever opening our mouths. She called it "shining." And for a long time, I thought it was just the two of us that had the shine to us. Just like you probably thought you was the only one. But there are other folks, though mostly they don't know it, or don't believe it. Quotes from "The Shining"
I can very much relate to "shining." For instance, yesterday I was chatting to a friend who has been off sick with "Swine Flu." I was carrying the conversation on two levels. On the surface level I was asking him about how he was feeling and listening to him describing the symptoms, his visit to the doctor, the medication he's been taking; while on a deeper level, where I experience life, I was dissolving the belief in "Swine Flu" with "Love is all there is", sending my friend love and giving him a hug. In other words, at the deeper level I was shining.

I would go bonkers if I only experienced life on the surface level.

Nothing can dull my shine.
